The Belt Law


When performing on stage, or playing in the rehearsal space, never strap your guitar or bass higher than your belt line (see figure 1). Never. You may protest, "But... I like having it strapped up high... I can see the frets better that way... " Or, you might say, "But... that's the only way I can play my major 7th arpeggios!"
These objections are irrelevant.
If you hope to pursue a career as a "Rock Musician," you simply cannot violate The Belt Law.
The guitar or bass must always hang lower than your belt line (see figure 2).

Exceptions to The Belt Law:
1) You have very short arms.
2) You've reached such a level of portliness that you can't actually SEE your belt line, in which case "reach" is an issue.
3) You're performing naked.
